Access Tip: Birthdays in July
By Richard Rost   Richard Rost on Facebook Richard Rost on Twitter Richard Rost on Google Plus Richard Rost on LinkedIn Email Richard Rost

Q: I need to make a query to find all customers who have birthdays in July. How can I do that?

A: You can easily do this with the DatePart function. Just create a query, and in that query make a new CALCULATED FIELD such as this:

MyMonth: DatePart("m",[DOB])

Where DOB is the date of birth field from your table, "m" represents the month, and MyMonth is going to be a new field which should be a number from 1 to 12.

Now, just set the Criteria for that field (in the same column) equal to whatever month you're looking for. For July, that's 7.

Piece of cake.

How to create a birthday calendar Comment from Israel Estrada @ 12/17/2014

First, let me say that I've found your website, and all of your tips useful. As someone who for the most part has been self taught on Access, your website is a great resource.

In any case, I'm trying to figure out how to create a Report that will give me a Birthday Calendar. Something like "January" with names of the people whose birthday is in January, and the day of the person's birthday listed under it. All in one page, with all months listed. Any thoughts?

Reply from Alex Hedley:

Hi Israel,
Glad to hear you are finding the Tips useful.

Why not create a Query splitting the Day and Month into separate Fields.
Then base a Report on this Query grouped by Month.
Then drag the Day Field into the Detail section.
You could then force a new page for each month.
