Richard's Recommended Excel Books

I've always said the best way to learn Excel is by watching my step-by-step video tutorials... especially when you're a beginner. However, once you take that step beyond the basics, you're going to want to pick up a good reference book to keep on your desk.

Now, I make handbooks that go with most of my video lessons. However, my handbooks are really designed to be a supplement to the videos - to follow along with as you watch the tutorials. They were never meant to be comprehensive reference texts.

So... with that in mind, here are the books I recommend most. I have copies of all of these on my shelf, and they're all great books. I do not sell these books myself, but I have included direct links to Amazon.com if you want to buy them for your reference library (just click on the book title).

Microsoft Excel Bible The most comprehensive book you will find on Excel. Advanced, but thorough.
Learn Excel from Mr. Excel I love Mr. Excel's books. He's very straightforward and to the point with not a lot of extra filler or useless information. I have an old copy of his "Mr. Excel on Excel" book here that just has tips and tricks in it with nothing extra. I don't know if he still sells it, but it's great.
Excel for Dummies Most people who know more than just the basics of Excel shy away from the Dummies books, but I actually like them. Most Dummies books have a lot of great information. The problem is that I don't think the Dummies books are organized very well (teaching things out of order) so I don't recommend them to beginners. But, if you're looking for a desk reference, they're not bad.
Microsoft Excel Step by Step A good beginner to intermediate level book with a lot of good examples.
