Hi Mr. Richard
I am gold member of your channel and i have a query. In a real world we don't show all the records on the form or list. for eg. i want to load a record of customer in the header of the form where all the header fields are unbound. I want to search the data from the customer table and load in the header fields which are unbound. In the details sub-form which is also unbound i want to search the products and load the products from product table and and all the header and sub-form data i want to save it into another table, like transaction or history table, and i want to use this table or query for reports to know my daily, monthly and yearly sales.
Please advise how to achieve this in unbound fields
thanks and best regards,
Mohammad Masood

There's a lot to unpack in that paragraph. Let's break it down and start with ONE thing at a time. What are you trying to accomplish first?

There are a number of ways you could do this, I'm going to use DLOOKUP.

So let's say you search the field in SearchF, your other form is UnboundF for this example, and you are searching by the SerialNumber which is the unique primary key in the table. Then you want to send over the Serial Number, a Product Number, and a Description.

Depending what kind of search you have will change how you dlookup values below. For my example, I'm going to assume that I'm searching by the SerialNumber so I will have it, if you're using a listbox or some other search you will need to make adjustments.

DoCmd.OpenForm "UnboundF"
Forms!UnboundF!UnboundSerialNumber = SerialNumber
Forms!UnboundF!UnboundProductNumber = DLOOKUP("ProductNumber","ProductT","SerialNumber=" & SerialNumber)
Forms!UnboundF!UnboundDescription = DLOOKUP("Description","ProductT","SerialNumber=" & SerialNumber)

Listbox Search you could use = SearchList.Column() and appropriate numbers

You could also use a recordset

There are a lot of ways to do it, including what Adam said. You'll definitely need an event to trigger loading the data. See AfterUpdate.
