Why the query in lesson 4 Upload Images   Link   Email
Sedef Iskit
In lesson 4 (minute 3 onwards), why do you create a query from the CustomerT table, instead of creating a continuous form only using the 5 selected fields directly from the table? You say to "always create a query for specific fields you wanna see" but if all the fields come from the same table, what is the advantage to create the form through a query?
Scott Axton
Good catch.  You could base the form off of the table.
The reason you would want to use the Query is that you have more control over the data.  Order of the fields, sorting, customizing fields - You might want to display LastName, First Name for instance.  You may want to do calculations.  Those are easier in a query.

The other reason to use the Query is you are only pulling in the information you need for the form.  This becomes more important when working with multiple users or over a network.  If you use the table as the record source you have to pull the whole record down even if you are only using only 3-4 fields.

Hope that makes sense.

At this point, I'm trying to teach beginner users to rely on queries for sorting and filtering data, instead of moving straight into filters and sorts in forms. Just personal preference. There are a million ways to skin a cat.
