Access Updater Upgrades

Planned Possible Upgrades for 1.x

- support for ACCDE files - AccessUpdater.ACCDE
     - have Access automatically CREATE and distribute an ACCDE file
     - NOTE that Updater currently DOES support distributing YOUR database as an ACCDE file. It's just that the
AccessUpdater.ACCDB file isn't an ACCDE yet, and doesn't create an ACCDE from your front-end.
     - Here are some comments from one of my moderators, Sami Shamma:
I use the updater with all my Access apps, and all of them are using ACCDE. All you have to do is:
               1) finish your updates in ACCDB
               2) Create your ACCDE file
               3) Disable what you do not want the user to access
               4) reopen the ACCDE file (as Admin)
               5) Push the update from this stage.

It works for me very well.

- properly LOCK DOWN admin features

- better error handling for missing files

- force users out of the database and lock it so they can't get back in - good for it you have to do maintenance

Bug Fixes / Enhancements

- load startup form should be a sub in AccessUpdaterF
    - code in two places

- more user-friendly "will restart" screens

- pretty up the interface / hide admin buttons, fields users don't need to see, make main form expand for admin only

- 3 second admin shutdown

- user can snooze upgrade for X minutes

- check to make sure server drive is mapped (exists)

- as a precaution, once the username is set, make the user have to double-click to change it

- one thing that I did in my personal copy was to LOCK the fields in AccessUpdaterMainF. This is because during the update process if the user accidentally happens to type on the keyboard, it will mess the update up. It doesn't really affect anything because that data isn't saved to a table, but it will break the cycle. The data is read from the TXT file when the form loads. But this way the user can't accidentally abort the update by typing garbage at that critical moment.

Notes / Instructions

- Show how to use Google Drive or OneDrive to map a drive letter and distribute updates online

Possible Upgrades for 2.x

- custom startup splash screens for both your database and AccessUpdater

- option to hide startup form in both databases

- default Settings file (startup form, remote db)

- issue commands to workstations
    - reboot now, shutdown, possibly reboot PC

- lock users out of database - good for server updates

- reboot at specific time of day like 3am

- realtime network usage display form for admin

- relink tables

- link to tables on SQL Server or Sharepoint

- distribute FE via mapped Google Drive folder
