Another Accidental Seminar

Uh oh, folks, I'm doing it again... I'm "accidentally" recording another short seminar. I started helping an Insider Circle member with a problem and it turned into an hour-long explanation, so I decided it would be best to just turn it into a seminar.

What's it about? Well, there's yet ONE MORE THING you can do to secure the data in your Access database. I've already showed you a TON of tricks in my Security Seminar, and how to scramble the data in your tables in the Encryption Seminar.

Well, if that wasn't enough there's one more thing you can do, and that's to split your back-end database (yes, multiple split table databases) and use Windows-level security to control access.

So... for those of you who want YET ANOTHER trick for securing your databases, this short seminar will be for you. There's a little bit of repeat in it, but you'll love this trick.

I'm almost finished recording it now. It should be about an hour long. Look for it soon.

New and Really Enjoying Comment from Wayne G @ 7/4/2012
...your seminars.  So far, I've purchased Access 320 and 321.  I've taught myself a lot of basics through reading and with some help from some friends before finding your website.  Your informative, focused lessons have really rocketed my growth.  I appreciate it.  Please keep it coming...

Stacked Bar Chart in Access Comment from Buck B @ 7/3/2012
Richard,
Whenever you can get to your seminar on charting, please include how to produce a stacked bar chart.  I'm told it takes a pivot table to produce.  I've done that in Excel but can't seem to figure it out in Access.

Thanks for all the GREAT lessons and seminars you produce.  Very easy to learn under such thorough explainations.

Seminars Comment from James Fisher @ 6/30/2012
I've just watched your recent survey and thouught it was great. I particulary liked the lesson which talked about shared folder permissions. Very good. Right at the beginning you briefly talked about SQL server which I'm hoping you will create a  seminar on soon. The courses I'm particualy looking forward to are sort and search, Shrepoint and SQl server. Great class and a great teacher

Thanks James. Your compliments mean a lot to me. I try to base the order I release seminars on the Waiting List. This helps me gauge what people are most interested in. But, sometimes, things can get moved around based on different situations.

Search & Sort Seminar is up next. Sharepoint and SQL Server will be up soon. Several people have expressed interest, and I'm anxious to make those too. I have a couple of other MINI seminars (like the one I just finished) that might get tossed in there too.

Plus, I've got to keep making new Access 2010 lessons... at least 1 or 2 a week. I've got lots of material to cover that wasn't in the original lessons.

Hi Richard,
How's the serch and sort seminar coming along

Reply from Richard Rost:

The Search Seminar is the on-deck batter. It's up after I finish Access Beginner 5.

What about a seminar about how to make a dashbord, showing couple of different live tracking information. Like number of people login the database, Number of invoices for the day/week/Month. Number of Tasks open, and more on one form.

Reply from Richard Rost:

That's a good idea. It would be a pretty short seminar, but it would use all of the domain aggregate functions (DLOOKUP, DMAX, DSUM, DCOUNT, etc) and some charting... both of which would go well together. I'll add this to the list.
