Thanks for the tip,
Sorry about the waste of money,
I may just convert them all and put on the ones I need when I need them then I'm not tied to using the net etc

The reviews are not very palatable:

Tried watching Daily Show videos. So laggy and slow, impossible to watch anything.

So slow can't use for video.

Update: company uses promo gift cards to give to employees to add fake positive reviews.

I spend probably $100 a year in apps never really regret my purchases, but I actually feel I wasted my $1. Slow on wifi with my iphone 4. I've actually bought every browser avaiable but cloud. This is by far the worst. I guess skyfire or a remote to pc app still the only options for flash.

Probably not a good idea!

Found another app that plays flash

Might work on the same principle as SkyFire but I haven't tried it yet

If you're going to include a hyperlink, make sure you include the "http://" otherwise the link won't work. I fixed it for you.

Handbrake is great!

View courses on our Mac

I've just come across Flip4Mac from the guys who made Screenflow (which is awesome)
It lets you play/export/import Windows Media Files on your Mac

There is a free component for Quicktime

Yes I could just watch them online with the Flash versions but I've downloaded all the courses so If i was to transfer them to my Mac it would save converting them all.

Dunno if this tool has been mentioned, but Handbrake is really great and fast for conversions - and free. Handbrake(dot)fr and works on both mac and pc.

I used Daniusoft Video Converter to convert them to mp4 (I believe).  The ability to view them on the iPad has been a boon.  Of course I could not practice the code, but I could watch and listen over and over again.

Reply from Richard Rost:

Interesting. I use VideoZilla myself which I know can convert to MP4. Maybe I'll convert a few classes and throw them up for people. It just takes SO LONG to convert them.

I have just returned from an enjoyable cruise of 7 days during which time I found the courses, which I had previously transferred to my iPad, invaluable not only for understanding the course, but also for the ease of use whilst away from my desktop computer.  I would thoroughly recommend transferring the courses for study in an adverse environment.

Reply from Richard Rost:

What format did you convert them into for your iPad?

I've just added a discussion board message over on facebook to see how much interest there is in watching the videos on Macs.

(Not sure how many ppl use the discussions boards, don't think they are given much importance.)

Didn't know whether it would be worth:
asking it as one of the new Facebook questions?
adding it to the waiting list for people to vote?
making it a new blog post?

I'd certainly vote yes :)

Reply from Richard Rost:

Honestly, in the 10 years I've been running 599CD.com, I've probably only received about a dozen emails asking me if my videos will run on Macs. And since the iPad was released, MAYBE 4 or 5 people have asked. It's certainly not something in high demand. However, I'll ask it as a FB question and we'll see what happens.

Maybe there is an app that can stream your videos securely? I know I would really like to have the ability to watch the tutorials through an app on IPad or through some other desktop thingy (an adobe air player for my Imac or PC).

Just a thought....

Keep up the great work, Richard. : )

it's possible to check it on the web in this web site:
http://www.skyfire.com/en/support/video-site-check
(i don't  success to get a link directly to a video so i'm not able to test it)

Reply from Richard Rost:

I tried it with one of my pages that has an embedded Flash video and it didn't work. It looks like you have to provide it with an exact URL of the video file, and since my Theater does its best to HIDE the direct URL (so people don't try to leech all my videos) this might not be a good solution.

I've not actually downloaded it yet but here is a quote from their website
[http://www.skyfire.com/product/ipad]

"Flash Video
The “Video” icon enables users to play millions of Flash videos around the web that otherwise do not play on mobile. This unlocks content trapped behind those error messages with question marks and blue Legos by transcoding the Flash content into HTML5 on Skyfire’s servers."

Looks like it may take a while to convert to a HTML5 compatible type depending on their server speed but at least it's a work around.

The reviews seem to be positive.

Hi Jimmy
Have you seen this new app available for the iPhone - it allows Flash videos to be played on iOS
Skyfire Web Browser
[http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/skyfire-web-browser/id384941497?mt=8]
[I'm on my iPhone atm so it's not the iPad link]
There is an iPad app available too so I'm sure a search for Skyfire whilst on your iPad App store should get the results you wish.
Hope this achieves what you're after and you can enjoy the courses from your iPad too,
Alex

Does this play my videos OK on your iPad? I'm an Android tablet user myself, so I can play Flash video without any problems.

They can be converted using a program such as Daniusoft Video Converter so they can be viewed on an iPad, but would that be a breach of the conditions or copyright or something?

Reply from Richard Rost:

My lessons are sold on a PER USER basis, so I don't mind if someone converts my videos for their OWN USE on an iPad... as long as they're not shared.

I have software to convert the videos to iPad format as well, but it takes several HOURS to convert a course over, and I have HUNDREDS of videos I would have to convert. So far, I've only had a VERY small number of people ask about it, so it hasn't been a priority.

Again, I think that it's really a mistake for Apple not to allow Flash videos to play on the iPad... and I've got Flash versions of all of my videos available in the Theater.

Hi Rick (my best teacher from ever)
I'm write you from my iPad, I will be very happy if you will enable to see your courses from an iPad
Good night

Reply from Richard Rost:

As soon as Big Daddy Steve allows Flash video to play on your iPad, you'll be able to watch my videos. The vast majority of my videos are available in both Windows Media and Flash video formats in the Theater. Since iPad will play neither, that leaves you guys out.

It's Apple's decision to not include support for Flash, which I think is a HUGE mistake. 98% of all online video content (including YouTube) is in Flash. It would take a LOT of work for me to convert ALL of my videos (hundreds of hours worth of material) over to a format that the iPad can play.

Now, I am experimenting with HTML5 which does allow videos that are viewable on both Mac and PC... but this is still a little ways off.
